About the play
Set in 2009, as the Celtic Tiger lies in ruins and Ireland is plunged into recession, Credit Crunch drops us into a small village pub where everyone is trying to cope with job losses, scandals… and relentless loan repayments.
Locals gather to share their worries and drown their sorrows — but when a menacing stranger walks in, secrets bubble to the surface. Add an indebted farmer, a love-hungry barmaid and the village simpleton, and you have the perfect recipe for chaos.
Directed by John Clancy, this sharp and hilarious one-act comedy by local writer Gerard Kennedy reminds us that when times are tough, it’s always better to ask than to assume!
